After about a year working for HotSchedules, we decided we wanted to go beyond scheduling and reviewed the entire journey of restaurant staff.  We identified problems with the hiring process and purchased GoHire, an early stage B2B product, to solve them and I was offered the opportunity to serve as the product manager and lead the hiring product line.

When thinking about my time leading the GoHire product, I am reminded of the lessons outlined by Peter Thiel in Zero to One to build a monopoly business.  Looking back, there were too many competitors already offering solutions for posting jobs and onboarding candidates and in the end we entered an intense competition for a very small market share.  After about a year, we all came to this realization and decided to create something new and solve a problem that no one else was solving: the lack of employee referrals in the restaurant industry.
